How to Remove Black Toolbar Internet Explorer 8 and Other Computer Tips

By

Attempts to Remove Toolbar; Success at Last

I have had trouble with the black lines on the toolbar ever since I downloaded Internet Explorer 8 on my Windows XP computer.. It was against my better judgment to perform this task as friends told me their employers refused to download this program. I finally got sick of the little update icon bothering me, so I downloaded it. Then, frustration set in as I tried all sorts of ways to remove the toolbar..

My husband uninstalled the browser and downloaded it again, and back came the blackness. Then I went to the Internet and tried some suggested methods to remove toolbar. My computer background had an amazing photograph of a lighthouse on a lake that everyone loved. However, I tried one suggestion to remove that background and return to the Windows classic. That did not work, and my photograph disappeared, never to return. Then I found a Microsoft fix that didn’t fix anything. I hesitated reverting back to another browser, as my toolbar was just right for me with McAfee Site Advisor and the Google Toolbar, and I was afraid of losing them and being further in a hole..

Months went by, and every day I started my computer and later restarted it again to get remove the toolbar for that day only. When the blackness was there, the toolbar did not have the required buttons for correct operation. I felt like I was slowly climbing the walls of a deep black hole with frustration, but with determination to reach the top.

Finally, I found a suggestion that worked, and II reached the top of that horrible black hole and the frustration that made me crazy, . I went to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, Themes, and changed themes to manual settings..My problem is gone forever, and my sanity has returned, but not my precious photograph. That's ok as long as my black hole from Microsoft has disappeared from my life.I have heard that there are other problems with the browser. but i have hot encountered anything else. I hope that this procedure will help others who still have this problem.

Ode to Microsoft

Oh Microsoft oh Microsoft

We used to trust you so.

But now we're in a big black hole

Wherever did you go?

Tips

Do not give Facebook or any other site your password for email, as this may violate privacy

When a fake virus scan begins a computer scan, get out of it or close computer down.

If your toolbar accepts favorites, put your often-used sites there for easy access.

Regularly delete temporary internet files as they slow down the computer.

Run scandisk and defrag on a regular basis.

If you have a virus, you cannot get rid of or something messing up your computer, use system restore to put it back to a prior date before the offender showed up.

Be sure to have virus scan, firewall, and spyware on your computer. Do not use two virus protectors.

Shut down your computer at night and during electrical storms. This is one of the computer tips that may save you money.

Don’t use the same password for all your programs

Clean out your email inbox on a regular basis.

Use a disposable email address for facebook and other similar sites. Also, use one at your main mailbox, so that you can change it as needed.

If you are an affiliate, use allintitle: and then your keywords, to determine how many website titles are using your keyword. This is for websites that are competing for good keywords to get traffic.

Use Google adwords keyword to find good keywords.

Do not put your bank in favorites for easy access. It may bring up an old page, and banks discourage it.

Do not give your email password to any site, as it may give them access to use the names and email addresses for unscrupulous activity.

Use a site advisor in order to stay away from bad pages. McAfee Site Advisor free

If you need photos for your websites, morguefile.com has many that they allow for commercial use. Read the license of the photo before using it.

Some people recommend not using Internet Explorer due to security issues. Firefox is an alternate browser that is more popular than Internet Explorer.(Click on Firefox above for more information).

Take a picture of the back of the computer to show the hookup. If you have to take it apart and then redo it, the photograph will assist in this process. These computer tips are great.

Download software carefully, closing programs prior to this task. Watch carefully for keys to be inserted registering the software. Computers have crashed on a reinstall due to failure to enter the registration key.

If you can not remove a program thru the Windows Add/Remove Programs, and luckily you are an advanced user, to manually uninstall it is also another way available but not recommended.

Hi Thanks sweety for reading my hub and making suggestions. I will look for your hubs. Adding and removing programs can be a tricky thing. It is always interesting to troubleshoot problems, although it can be frustrating at times.

Thanks for the tip on removing the ugly black bar from IE8. All the other things I'd tried from other forums worked until I re-booted my computer, then the black was back. I did it the way you described and after about 15 re-boots, no black bar. Thank you very much indeed!!

brakel2 11 months ago

Hi Mr. Ed I am glad it worked for you. I'm surprised you had to keep rebooting, but at least it is fixed. As you can see, it took me forever until I found the magic formula. Thanks for reading my hub.

Good info. I was looking for it for a while. I switched to Firefox long back but I have to use IE for some compatibility reasons. Your article is informative. Thanks

Hi registerdomains - Thanks for reading my hub. I hope it works for you. I love Firefox, but have difficulty with the add ons. Now I am back to IE 8, but I never did like it. I also had Safari for awhile. I need to get in a group discussion about browsers and pros and cons. Anyway, thanks again, and I will look for your hubs.

I too faced the problem. I got out of this problem downloading e8 from cnet.

Glad you found a way to fix black toolbar IE8. Many people had problems and needed a fix. I hate to download from CNET, but maybe it is not a problem anymore. I will look for your hubs and happy writing.

Thank you so much for your fix on the black toolbars worked great.... you are right, what happened to Microsoft that they can't even post this solution since they aren't about to fix the cause. You should post it on their community knowledge base sites and show them up. Sure glad I came across your tip.

brakel2 7 months ago

Thank you so much for your comment. Do you think I dare expose Microsoft? I will go to that website and decide. I appreciate your suggestion and am glad you fixed your PC after reading my article. I will look for your hubs. I hope you like troubleshooting as much as I do. Happy writing Chub.

It doesn't work on my computer. I did as you said:

Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, changed themes to manual.

I even restarted computer to make sure everything was cleared … and nothing happened, the bar is still there in both, ei8 and firefox. Any suggestions? Thanks.

brakel2 7 weeks ago via iphone

Yes, several people said they had to do several restarts before it worked. Keep trying and don't give up. Many commented that I did work for them. I don't have XP anymore, but I'll post here if I get any other info. You might try redoing the fix also. Thanks for reading article
