How to Remove Black Toolbar Internet Explorer 8 and Other Computer Tips

Attempts to Remove Toolbar; Success at Last
I have had trouble with the black lines on the toolbar ever since I downloaded Internet Explorer 8 on my Windows XP computer.. It was against my better judgment to perform this task as friends told me their employers refused to download this program. I finally got sick of the little update icon bothering me, so I downloaded it. Then, frustration set in as I tried all sorts of ways to remove the toolbar..
My husband uninstalled the browser and downloaded it again, and back came the blackness. Then I went to the Internet and tried some suggested methods to remove toolbar. My computer background had an amazing photograph of a lighthouse on a lake that everyone loved. However, I tried one suggestion to remove that background and return to the Windows classic. That did not work, and my photograph disappeared, never to return. Then I found a Microsoft fix that didn’t fix anything. I hesitated reverting back to another browser, as my toolbar was just right for me with McAfee Site Advisor and the Google Toolbar, and I was afraid of losing them and being further in a hole..
Months went by, and every day I started my computer and later restarted it again to get remove the toolbar for that day only. When the blackness was there, the toolbar did not have the required buttons for correct operation. I felt like I was slowly climbing the walls of a deep black hole with frustration, but with determination to reach the top.
Finally, I found a suggestion that worked, and II reached the top of that horrible black hole and the frustration that made me crazy, . I went to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, Themes, and changed themes to manual settings..My problem is gone forever, and my sanity has returned, but not my precious photograph. That's ok as long as my black hole from Microsoft has disappeared from my life.I have heard that there are other problems with the browser. but i have hot encountered anything else. I hope that this procedure will help others who still have this problem.

Informative hub,thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the tip on removing the ugly black bar from IE8. All the other things I'd tried from other forums worked until I re-booted my computer, then the black was back. I did it the way you described and after about 15 re-boots, no black bar. Thank you very much indeed!!
Hi Mr. Ed I am glad it worked for you. I'm surprised you had to keep rebooting, but at least it is fixed. As you can see, it took me forever until I found the magic formula. Thanks for reading my hub.

If you can not remove a program thru the Windows Add/Remove Programs, and luckily you are an advanced user, to manually uninstall it is also another way available but not recommended.
