Plagiarism Detection - Take Control of Stolen Content

By

Plagiarism Detection and DMCA

Plagiarism detection and reporting are the only ways to control Internet stolen content or any kind of theft from books, newspapers , art, photography. This activity has raised the ire of many people who provide content for the public. as it severely violates the privacy of individuals. In 2011, duplicate content, also known as plagiarism, is rampant, especially on the Internet. Content becomes a duplicate when an author copies another author's work. passing it off as his own.. Plagiarists sometimes change words in the original and may change many words in a process called spinning. A copyright law outlaws plagiarism/copying original work. The following is an example of Internet plagiarism.

Plagiarism detection

An author wrote an article and later found copies at four websites. She stated her body froze in anger from losing privacy and integrity. Other authors claimed they wrote the article. In addition, most of her plagiarized articles were on the first page of Google with her chosen keywords, and the plagiarized articles were above hers, receiving most of the views. They no longer exist due to a Google DMCA procedure discussed below

One method writers use to find plagiarism is putting keywords or the entire title in search. Another method is to use a plagiarism checker such as searchenginereports.net, which gives you a free advanced plagiarism checker. You can enter the. URL or portions of your article to find duplicates. In addition, you can hire a firm to check for your duplicate content, a somewhat costly procedure.. Placing words from your title into a Google alert may bring plagiarism in the form of an email from Google, originating from the plagiarized site. Duplicate content issues have probably happened to thousands of people, but that does not make it right.

Takedown notice

When you find a duplicate of an article, the first option is to write a takedown notice. You must locate the webmaster or owner of the site by running the URL of the website in a whois directory, such as domaintools.com. Some websites require membership to obtain data about the owner, webmaster, IP address, email addresses, and the massive information at the site. Then you send a letter or email to the webmaster, such as the one composed on this site. Include the URL of each website, your title, and date of your publication Addresses in another country make enforcement difficult to achieve.

Some webmasters and owners are very cooperative, while others resist. When a writer attempted a takedown notice on one site, the entry page changed, a notice appeared, stating the site tracks the ISP number of computers. and email address is required for entry. In trying to track down the owner, a virus attacked her computer. Luckily, security software caught it. This is a lesson learned about being too zealous in your attempts to locate owners

DMCA procedure

After you send the notice, you may not receive a response. The next action is to go to the Google DMCA website (enter in search) and fill in the blanks about the plagiarism. You will need the URL of both websites and date of your publication and title. Google receives so many of these notices, making action a slow process..It may interest you to know that after one DMCA went to Google, the plagiarist emailed the writer to apologize. That may make it all worthwhile, and may be a lesson learned. That plagiarist may have a conscience, while others may be only interested in money.

Summary

Writers and others must continue to police their works or hire a site to perform the task. Plagiarism is an insult and writers, artists, and photographers must refuse to tolerate it. To those who escape plagiarism, be thankful that someone is watching out for you. When it happens, the gifted must join the ranks of those who faithfully use plagiarism detection, follow it up, and refuse to be victims. Through this effort, Internet thieves will no longer be able to steal dignity and talent, and victims can get back their lives.

Thanks for the resources and information. The sample take down notice is also helpful. I bookmarked this page just in case I need it in the future.

Thanks for reading my article on plagiarism and for bookmarking it. It is a shame we have to deal with this problem. I have had seven that I dealt with. The process does get easier the more you do it. I read your profile and will look for your hubs

I've read your hub and voted it 'up'. :) Great job and thank you so much for sharing the data!

Hi femme - Thank you for reading my hub and voting it up. It is so discouraging when people copy articles on the Internet. I hope that nobody ever copies anything of yours. It is an interesting subject anyway. I will read your profile and look for your hubs. Have a great day.

Thanks for the great post..Nice

Many thanks for this article. I have just found one of my hubs replicated twice under someone else's name. I'm going to put your good advice in action.

I've been fortunate in that I've only had a handful of hubs stolen and re-published, but I have actively pursued those and gotten them all taken down. One thing I might mention is that I find it easier to do a google search for a block of text from within my hub. It is easier to spot stolen material that way.

It is very important to take action to get stolen work removed from the web and, if possible, to get google to remove their adsense account.

Often a DMCA to the host will get the offending work removed, but it can do nothing about an adsense account. Without that accout the thief is nearly out of business until s/he can find a work-around.

A good hub, with good information. Thanks for the information and for letting people know what's happening out there.

Htodd. Thanks for reading my Hub and commenting. I hope you never have a stolen hub. It seems to happen a lot these days. I hope my article helps you if you ever need information. I will look for your hubs. Good luck with your writing.

Les trois. Thanks for your comment on my hub. I hpe it helps with your stolen content. I love the name you use and see you are from France. I know people who have visited and are impressed with the countryside. I wonder if there are others from France on the site. I will look for your hubs and happy writing

Hi Wilderness - Thanks for the nice comments and for the great suggestion. It was about putting blocks of text from a site in Google search. That is brilliant. I hope you don't have any more stolen content. We need to get rid of all to make our site better. I know it will never totally disappear, but we can give it our best shot. Your writing is excellent. Keep up the good work.

I wish there were harsher consequences for plagiarism. Especially when the thief is experiencing monetary compensation for your hard work and original ideas. Many steal others work with no fear of consequences or retribution.

Les Trois Chenes 8 months ago

I've put part one into action, written to the offender and received a very nice call from the site owners promising to take the article down. Unfortunately the culprit had since left the site.

brakel2 8 months ago via iphone

Great job les trois. Doesn't it give you real satisfaction to be successful in getting one plagiarism site to disappear? Hope you don't get any more. So happy to hear from you again. I will be looking for your hubs.

I guess I'm going to have to worry about this more. I'd probably have never ever known about my stolen content if it weren't for (and sadly, I can't even remember which HP person told me about it) the person that said,

"hey look, they've got you on their front page!"

Google takes care of business though! They got rid of the stolen stuff in about 30 hours for my complaint!

I was IMPRESSED with Google for that!

brakel2 8 months ago via iphone

Thanks WTS for reading my hub and commenting about being ready for others to follow - stolen content that is. Maybe you have only one that was stolen. I remember it was Izzy who found it - the snake article. I know you are a good writer, as that site took only the best. I hope Google really tries to shut it down. Good luck with your writing, and I will look for your hubs.

brakel2 8 months ago

Hi Jennie - I wish there was more punishment for plagiarism. They get away with too much. Maybe they should ban them from writing on the Internet. Google takes a more positive stance than a few months ago and volunteer law students and others help them at a website by listing the actions taken and who filed the complaint. Anything that works is a step in the right direction. Thank you for reading my article. I will look for your hubs.

laidbacklady 8 months ago

Thanks for this awesome hub! You know, I never really think about anybody stealing what I write--just too laid back about things I guess, hence the name! I think I will start checking, though, because I would definitely be pissed off if it did happen to me! Voted up and useful and interesting and awesome!

brakel2 8 months ago

Hi Laidbacklady - I appreciate your reading my hub and your kind remarks. I was so angry when my first article was stolen, and now seven stolen ones are fixed. I hope that none of yours get stolen. If we keep filing complaints, maybe less plagiarism will exist. Google appears to be more proactive at this point. I love the dog that is your profile picture. The dog looks real so may belong to you. I love dogs. I think I am following you and have read some hubs. Good luck with your writing.

vocalcoach 6 months ago

Ah yes, the heartbreak of stolen work. I was one of the very first people on the internet to offer a website on how to sing. I gave away so much information, as my desire was to help others and offer support. It wasn't long before my ideas and articles were all copied. In fact my website was copied word for word but back then, nothing could be done. It still happens. In the beginning, I was so angry. It literally made me sick.

It is still going on, now and then. Your wonderful and informative article nows gives me a place to start researching those who copy my content. Thanks so much. Voted up!

Thanks vocalcoach for reading my hub. I am so sorry that your original works were copied everywhere. It is such a personal affront to have that happen. I hope you can use the information in this article to track any stolen information. I am interested in your information on breathing and may get with you on it. In the meantime, good luck with your writing and good luck on keeping your articles in their original place and not copied elsewhere.

jainismus 3 months ago

It is a very important article for online writers. Voted up.

brakel2 3 months ago

Hi Janis. -Thanks for reading and voting up my hub. I hope you never have to use the procedure. I have had good luck for a while after a series of problems with stolen hubs. I have noticed in the forum that the problem continues with plagiarism. It may gradually decrease. Take care.
